Very long and pointed snout. Larger than long rhombic disc, with anterior margins very concavous. Smooth dorsal surface. Row of 40-50 small spines along the tail.<br><br><strong>Color:<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/strong>Dark brown-grey above, lacking distinct patterns. Dark brown underparts.<br><br><strong>Measurements:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Total length <\/strong>(TL)<strong>: <\/strong>up to 58 &#8211; 150 cm (max 200 cm, possibly 250 cm)<\/li><li><strong>Disk width <\/strong>(DW)<strong>:<\/strong> 58-61 cm<br>Males are smaller than females.<br><\/li><li><strong>Swimming pattern: <\/strong>Undulatory and pelvic fin locomotion (walking and punting).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-primary-background-color has-background has-large-font-size\"><strong>Egg case<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p>Very large capsules with a long rectangular shape and pointed horns at the corners, deposited on sandy and muddy bottoms. Well developed anterior and posterior apron. Straight anterior apron whereas the posterior is rounded and slightly shorter. Short posterior and anterior horns. Adhesive fibres attached to well developed lateral keels. In the central-western Mediterranean, eggs were found at depth from 974 to 1212 m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Size: <\/strong>18.2 &#8211; 26.0 cm length, 9.2 &#8211; 11.3 cm wide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/ciesm.org\/marine\/programs\/skatesandrays\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Dipturus_nidarosiensis_Egg.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"397\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Distinctive features:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Well-developed aprons.<\/li><li>Surface of the egg-case not covered with fibers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dipturus:<\/span> Short horns or reduced to a simple shape.
