Main fields of research (at present - 6 max)
taxonomy of benthic species in marine (incl. phytobenthos) and lagoon systems, biology and physiology of commercial species, chemical oceanography and monioring of contaminants in the water column, sediments and biota in both natural and anthropic environments (ports, offshore platforms, industrial coastal zones), biomagnification |

Main research collaborations at international level (at present)
Ongoing long-term monitoring programs
* HarmoNIA Transnational Cooperation Interegg Adrion (2014-2020) on data quality control. Monitoring of plastics in Adriatic Sea; development of alternative trawl gear and pilot projects for sustainable fishing of coastal resources; restoration of seagrass meadows in the Northern Lagoon of Venice through widespread transplantation and monitoring of the conservation status and ecological quality of the restored habitat. Using C and N stable isotopes to: evaluate the species trophc levels; identify different sources of eutrophication; for traceability of fishery products; for screening of plastics and their degradation in aquatic systems. Development of methodologies for screening emerging contaminants in transitional and marine systems |
