The Mediterranean Science Commission (CIESM) took part in the 3rd International Joint Conference MARBLUE, held in Constanța, Romania. Dedicated to the protection of the Black Sea through a multidisciplinary approach to sustainable development, the conference provided a platform for scientific exchange on marine research and related challenges.
Advancing research on migratory marine species
On this occasion, CIESM presented findings from its Migratory Species Programme, focusing on the tracking of an endemic seabird of the Mediterranean and Black Seas through an innovative at-sea capture method.
The research reflects collaborative scientific efforts conducted in Türkiye, Romania and Greece, across the Mediterranean and Black Sea, which together form the natural distribution range of this endemic seabird.
By bringing together research efforts across these countries, the CIESM Migratory Species Programme illustrates the importance of international scientific cooperation in studying marine species whose distribution extends across national boundaries and marine basins.
The presentation took place during a scientific session chaired by Dr Laura Boicenco, CIESM National Delegate for Romania, reflecting the continued involvement of the Commission’s national scientific network in regional research exchanges.
Scientific cooperation across the region
The MARBLUE Conference brought together the scientific community around the protection and sustainable development of the Black Sea, encouraging multidisciplinary dialogue between researchers and institutions.
CIESM extends its sincere thanks to the conference co-organisers, Universitatea „Ovidius” din Constanța, GeoEcoMar Romania, National Institute for Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa” and Ong Mare Nostrum, for organising this scientific gathering and fostering dialogue and cooperation across the region.
Through its participation, CIESM reaffirmed the importance of sustained scientific collaboration between the Mediterranean and Black Sea research communities.
