MEDITERRANEAN SCIENCE COMMISSION




The Mediterranean Science Commission (CIESM), headquartered in Monaco, seeks a Director General to assume next September the succession of Prof. Frédéric Briand at the helm of an independent Inter-Governmental Organization with a rich, original history and achievements intersecting the frontiers of marine research and international policy.

The selected candidate will possess a PhD in marine sciences, a distinguished research record, and be familiar with the various scientific contexts around the Mediterranean and Black Seas. A real knowledge of CIESM Congresses and a good command of the diverse sectors of activity of the Commission will be an asset.

S/he will be a national of a CIESM Member State, will have at least 15 years of professional research experience and proven leadership skills to assume overall responsibility in the management of the Commission and guide its international Science Council with a broad vision and creativity. The post requires fluency in English, a good level in French (both written and oral), and a personality capable to assert the intellectual independence and multi-cultural sensitivity of the Commission.

Applications shall include a letter of interest indicating the vision of the candidate, a short CV (three pages maximum, listing only 6 most important research publications), plus the names and contacts (email, phone) of three referees. Applications will be treated in strict confidence by the international Advisory Board of the Commission acting as selection committee. The mandate will be for a period of five years, renewable, and remuneration according to international standards. Applications from qualified women are naturally welcome.
