Reaching Kiel

By air:

• via Hamburg

By air, Kiel is easily reached via Hamburg international airport (code: HAM, and from there by highway (bus or taxi ) to Kiel, some 90 km away. CIESM and the local organizers will do their best to arrange at a modest price the transfer by direct shuttle buses of  interested Congress participants arriving at Hamburg airport on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and their return at the end of the week.
Otherwise note that  a regular coach "Kielius" leaves the airport at Terminal 1and reaches Kiel main bus station in about  90 min. Tickets can be purchased in cash directly in the bus (19 € one way); payment by credit card is not possible (there are several possibilities at the airport to change money).
Of course taxis are also available, thru a specific airport service (see options on to be ordered in advance.
You can also use the local train ("S-Bahn") S1 to Hamburg main station and then a train to Kiel. However, this option takes about 2 hours and is not cheaper than the Kielius bus. The S1 departs every 10 minutes from the S-Bahn-station directly in front of the airport terminals. Tickets for a trip to Kiel are available at ticket machines (which can communicate in various languages). For more information and timetables, please check the Bahn website (the website is available in more than ten languages,, searching for a connection from "Hamburg Airport" to "Kiel Hbf".
