Tunisia at the Heart of Mediterranean Dialogue

On the occasion of a conference organized by the Académie de la Mer in Tunisia, Dr. Laura Giuliano was invited to contribute as an expert in the Mediterranean marine environment.

Her intervention offered an opportunity to present CIESM’s values, objectives and priority actions, while highlighting the Commission’s role in strengthening scientific cooperation across the Mediterranean basin. She emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing and sustained dialogue between scientific communities, institutions and society in addressing regional marine challenges.

Dr. Laura Giuliano also recalled Tunisia’s important place in the history and strategic framework of the Commission. As an active member country since CIESM’s early years, Tunisia has contributed to the development of the Commission’s scientific work and regional cooperation. Her intervention further underscored the sustained involvement of Tunisian scientists in CIESM activities, notably through their participation in research programmes, workshops and congresses.

This long-standing engagement reflects the importance of maintaining strong scientific links across the Mediterranean and of supporting collective approaches to the understanding and protection of marine environments.

CIESM expresses its gratitude to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco for his opening address, as well as to the Académie de la Mer and its President, Mr. Laurent Anselmi, for organizing this important moment of exchange in Tunisia.
