This illustrated Guide presents 38 species of skates and rays that are found in the Mediterranean and adjacent Portuguese and Moroccan waters. For each species the reader will find a description of key characteristics, key references, a map pointing to the most recent documented occurrences and nursery areas, a description of the egg (for oviparous species) and when available a video presenting the specific swimming pattern. This is completed by (a) a list of species that were excluded from the Guide for good reasons, (b) suggested further readings, and (c) a brief glossary. Discover each species (in alphabetical order) below.
NB. You are most welcome to send us documented evidence of recent records and of nursery areas not covered here. We will examine them with attention and update the Guide, if warranted, accordingly.
